Currently (as of February 2022), there seem to be massive problems with an Android module from Google that provides the speech output function (e.g. via text-to-speech). The module is called “Speech Services by Google” and is usually preinstalled on Android devices of all generations. The current reviews of the module in the Play Store speak volumes; problems seem to occur with millions of users.
Important: SmartRace is not to blame. The culprit is the aforementioned module, which apparently no longer works properly since one of the last updates.
Some users seem to be helped by uninstalling the module and then reinstalling it in an older version (downgrade). For example, one user wrote: “I have Google Text-to-Speech version 3.8.17 active and preventing an update. With that version the speech output works for me.”
Update February 14. User Rüdiger D. writes: I uninstalled the update of “Speech Services by Google” on my tablet and then had the factory settings with the old version again. With this everything worked again. But then I installed the update again and afterwards everything was still fine. I assume that there were some transmission problems during the update, whereby it was installed incorrectly.
New solutions will be added here as they become known.
