No connection to the control unit
Starting from Android 6, location services (GPS) have to be enabled and SmartRace must be allowed to use them. Here is why.
The bluetooth connection between your device and the control unit must NOT be established manually! It will be established automatically once the app is started and the control unit is powered on (exception: some Lenovo devices, see above). If you have ever tried to establish the connection manually before, please remove the control unit from the list of known devices. Afterwards, please restart both the control unit and SmartRace.
If you’re using iOS 11 or newer and are suffering from connection drops (every ~90 seconds), you’re probably affected by an issue with older AppConnect dongles. Read more on this issue.
If you can’t establish a connection between SmartRace and your Control Unit, please try and check the following:
- Does your smartphone or tablet support bluetooth 4.0?
- Is bluetooth enabled on your device and is your device visible for other devices?
- On Android: is SmartRace allowed to use bluetooth?
(Settings > Apps > Permissions) - Does your Control Unit run at least firmware version 336? Please make sure this is the case by connecting the original Race App from Carrera to your Control Unit and checking if a firmware update is available for you. If you have any trouble updating the firmware, please contact the Carrera support.
- If you’re using a Lenovo tablet and the connection can’t still be establish (although you considered ALL items from above and below!), please try the following:
- Power on the Control Unit
- Start SmartRace
- Open the tablets settings by swiping down from the top of the screen
- Press “search for (other) devices” from the settings
- Get SmartRace back to foreground
- The connection should have been established
